The Gorges du Verdon
This immense and magnificent gorge straddles two French departments – the Var and the Alpes de Haute Provence. The gorge consists of gigantic limestone cliffs and was formed as a result of erosion by the river Verdon.
It was really only discovered at the turn of the last century but since then has attracted and fascinated numerous visitors ... it certainly is an impressive sight! Set in the middle of protected countryside, rich in fauna and flora, the vistas are vertiginous. The villages nestling on the edge of the ravine have all the charm of Provencal villages from times past, they will give you a warm welcome and have many activities to offer you thanks to the wonderful natural setting in which they have the good fortune to find themselves ...
The Regional Nature Reserve of Verdon was formed in March 97. Today it encompasses 43 districts within the two departments and extends over nearly 178,000 hectares.
