Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere of the Feria in Dax
Every year in August, Dax is decked out in red and white for the Feria. This event, which is listed as part of France's intangible cultural heritage, attracts thousands of visitors. By combining popular festivals and bullfighting, the whole town celebrates with 4 days of festivities paying homage to its Gascon heritage.
As the capital of bullfighting for these few days, the quiet spa town of Dax becomes the stage for a host of musical, traditional folk and sporting events. Our team at Le Splendid offers you a warm welcome and invites you to experience this unique atmosphere for a long weekend in the Landes region.
Bullfighting and its traditions
The very essence of the Landes heritage, the Feria also includes a large number of traditional parades, nine-pin bowling tournaments and sporting challenges involving the best stilt walkers in the region. There's so much to discover and experience with friends and family.
The Feria is an important moment in the life of the town, but it is also punctuated by the traditions and bullfighting shows.
With 5 bullfights every day, plus a special one in the morning of 15 August, as well as 3 novilladas (bullfights between young bullfighters, not yet matadors, and young bulls), bullfighting is the real backbone to the event and the bullring is the place to be, with around 8,000 people gathering there every evening from 6pm onwards.
Each year, Le Splendid has the privilege of hosting several Matadors.
Upon their return from the arena, they cross the threshold, valiant and triumphant, sitting on the shoulders of their teammates, and proudly show off their trophies. Residents and staff, forming a guard of honour, warmly and joyfully welcome these heroes of the day. The party, which then breaks out and goes on well into the night, is an opportunity for everyone to spend time with these stars of an ancestral tradition.
